Hey camaro people.I am new to the site.I am not a GM guy but my wife wanted a camaro.She bought a 74 for me to restore.I was wondering if there were any other option as far as bumpers.I would like to change them from the stock ones to something better looking.Thanks in advance.

 

not really. You van have something custom fabricated, but as for a bolt on after market part. Not that I am aware off.

 

The wife has good taste. To rehash what was said theres really no options to change it, unless modified. My advice is to keep the bumpers. I never thought I'd have a mid 2nd gen Camaro, but now that I do the bumpers grew on me. My car still breaks necks. Just polish the bumpers, and your good.

 

you can always throw a 70-73 nose on it.

 

also people paint them to body color so they don't stick out as much and it doesn't look half bad

 

Custom fabbing is the only answer short of replacing the whole frontend and tail section, and then you might as well sell it and buy an early 2nd gen.
If your wife picked it, then she obviously didn't mind the bumpers, so I'd just make them look new, or replace with new and keep them stock looking.

 

they did make a second option bumper, they are 1/4" thick aluminum but still just as ugly. a friend of mine has a pair, hes asking like 250 for them but im sure you could get them for 150 for the pair.

 

I will try to find a picture just to see what they look like.These on the car have this big piece of rubber attached to them and are about as butt uggly as anything I have ever seen on a car.My wife likes every thing on the car BUT the bumpers.Thanks

 

As were on all 74-77 Camaros, your bumpers are aluminum. I've always been curious how hard it would be to rework these impact bumpers to move them deeper in. Whattaya know, a search turned up some good news to get better looks out of them. I never liked those type of bumpers on any car of that era, and some models looked worse than others.

I went to the 3rd page on that link and he has pictures of the bumpers completed and painted. They look much better sitting back in further! I like the thinner rubber strip, and the setback improves the looks too. They just don't look so huge.
I'm wondering how they would look if a guy painted them to match the body below the rubber strip, but left the new strip black and polished the bumper above the rubber? Might make them look smaller and still have a little bling too.
