1971 Camaro battery

I have been working on a 1971 Camaro that I got from my grandpa. It hasn't ran since the late 90s and this past year my friend and I got it running and driving good. It has a 307 in it with the TH-350 transmission. The reason for this post is since recently, I have been driving it with a bungee over the battery to keep it in place. I ordered a battery tray recently and installed it and put the battery back in, the negative battery terminal hits the inner wheel well. I was wondering what the best option to fix this would be? This is probably a dumb question with an easy fix. I've thought about switching to a top post batter but I'm trying to keep it as stock looking as possible. Thanks for any help!

Well if it is hitting then you are not stock. They didn’t hit stock. You either have the wrong battery size or something is put together wrong. IMO the best way to fix it is to track down why its hitting.

As Gorn suggests, wrong battery size - too tall.
Battery top should be below the fender line.

Was it hitting when you had the bungie cord on it with the original battery tray? Where did you get the tray from?

Kyle, where about are you located? I have been looking for my fathers Camaro he sold in the 90's that also had 307. Sorry to bother, I just have been looking for this car for sometime now. My father sold it in VA, supposed to be last seen in Alabama.
