Question 1970-1973 RS. How to verify its a real RS

Hi there guys

Im planning on buying a camaro tommorrow and the guy says its a real RS. It does have the the right nose cone with the split bumper and the little lights in the nose cone but is there any other ways of identifying its an RS

Is there a number on the tag or chassis or any other numbers on steering boxes or anything like that.

Is there anything I should be looking for?

Also, would anyone have any good links that could help me that shows areas that I should be looking for.

Sorry for all the questions, Im no guru when it comes to old school camaros...I just love em

Thanks again for any help

Matt

The only sure way to tell if it's an original RS is with the build sheet. Other than that there are only clues but nothing you can find on a trim tag or from the serial number.

What else do you know about the car? Any pics or links?

Well one clue is if it's a 1970 or 1971 z22(rs) option car it would include option z21 as well which included the chrome trim along the top of doors, windows, back edge of hood and sills along with accents on the tail lights and the matching body colored door handle inserts. Still no guarantee it came as an RS but it does make it more likely if all the RS front end parts are there. You should run some pics of the car on here and see what members think of the car before you lay down any cash. We look out for each other and don't like to see anyone get taken.

Nastyz28 has some pretty usefull imfo. You can go into the different years individually for imfo on the different packages. http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro.html

Pablo, that's as you say not a sure thing. My SS came with the same option, so it could be a RS, SS, Z28, or plain jane with the Z21 option. It was a pretty popular option.

Another thing the RS has is chrome rings on the tail lights. However, all the tell-tale signs of an RS can be faked.

Thanks for the help fellas

Its actually on ebay at the moment item number 260745274522

Went down and had a look but it just needs to much money spent on it to make it a viable investment. Theres alot of craze crack in the paint, the entire dash is out of the car and it needs a new dash pad and the drivers seat recovered. needed new roof lining and....basically needed to be restored in my books, but a good car to do it too

It was a great little project but not for that sort of money.

All the numbers stack up to be correct

What do you fellas think?
