Should i just put my 307 away
I have a stock 307 out of my 69 camaro and the motor in the car right now is a stock 307 out of a 69 2wd truck should i just put it out of its misery or could i do some simple mods (cam, carb, dist) all it has right now are headers still has 2bbl carb and the factory 2 speed powerglide. It runs like a tank from take of and doesn't really suit the look off my car its a yenko clone and i don't have enough money to build the big block right now and would like a little get up and go. please help me and my 307 problems

A cam 4bbl carb and distributor would most certainly help heads would also however add all that up plus labor and your well on your way to a 350 or 383 or even a 454 big block crate engine I believe the 350 n 383 can be purchased for around 5 k where the 454HO / 425 HP is a tad more around 7k through summit.I guess what im saying is a 307 really isnt worth the money when for a few dollars more you can have some real hp under the hood. However if the original 307 is still in your possesion I'D KEEP it stored away incase you decide to sell the car someday

I agree with michiganman. Keep the engine that came with the car, put it away. If it is numbers maching, it may be worth more to someone wanting it in the future if you plan on selling the car. I also agree that you should not do nothing more to the other engine you have, in fact I would try to sell it and save up for the 427 you want to build. Its getting to be cold out and winterizing the car is probably going to happen soon. Perfect time to save up and build a new mill.

Well I'm only twenty and work at a gas station so there really isn't that much money coming in for me ever since i quit my escavation job. My dad has some parts around from some of the old pulling trucks so all I really need to do is by me a big block rotating ***. and i could put some old parts together and slowly build from there but i also want to get the interior done to. Thats why i was asking about the 307 until i get enough for a big block. I plan on making it a 427 dad has some grumpy jenkins heads at least 4 mild cams i could choose an old offy intake and would have to get a carb.....

scrap cast iron is 3 cents a pound....
Definitely keep the original 307 for originality but putting together a 350 from parts around here is pretty easy. I bought good 350 engine with a'86 suburban wrapped around it for $40 at the abandoned vehicle auction last year, the heads needed rebuilt but jeez. Came with a good 700R4 too
I have to assume it's easy to get deals like thatall over the countrywhen your talking about small block Chevys

Well i think that there are just to many 350's out there and i like to be different i will probably just keep the 307 in until i build my big block. I guess the 307 ain't to bad because my buddy had one in his 68 bel air and he had a cam intake 4bbl carb and he ran a high 15 and that car is pretty heavy compared to mine o well all show and no go for a little while longer.
