without a vin stamp it will be a date correct engine here is some more info In that casting (3892657) a ME suffix stands for a small journal 327/ Auto trans.

In the same castings, the MS, MT, MU, and MV blocks were large journal and were 350's. GM just opened up the main journal on these to fit the larger 350 crank. These blocks were the L48 350's and were only used in the 67 Camaro SS. The 350 blocks are a lot rarer and cost more....

Very helpfull MM.
So is this statement true?
A 1967 with 327, regaurdless of the type of tranny can not be numbers matching car, Only a date correct car and a suffix matching car.

We shall see.
I'm going to look at it in a few hours. Hopefully it has the vin stamp and notcounterfiet restamp. I assume there's no way to tell the difference.
I will also look at the spedo cable location and the tach RPM range. I will post vin#'s tomorrow and maybe some pics.
Thanks for the help MM

I stand corrected .........
In 1967, the 327 engines did not get the partial vin stamped on the engine or transmission. You should look for the cast dates and the build dates an all components. The 12 bolt codes for 1967 could also start with "Q" such as "QK" for 3:31 Posi. If the 327 is original and a 4 bbl carb., the stamp on the front of the engine would have a suffex of MK for a Nor car and ML for a Los car.[/align]

From what i just read if there is a vin stamp on it and it is a 327 it is a restamped engine if it matchs the vin since ALL 327 1967 engines didnt come with a vin stamp or it is a 68 and up motor

I check out the motor yesterday and something doesn't add up.
The casting number is correct for a 1967 "3897657" but the engine suffix is "MU" which is for a 350/295 1968 with AT. A 1968 block should have a casting number of "3914678"
Does anybody know whats going on here?

Also all the numbers on the front pad are removed from an earlier rebuild, all but the suffix code "MU"

so the motor is a 67 350/295hp suffix MU that is complete with what looks like the correct carb, intake & exhaust manifolds, heads, distributor etc....... I still need to varify the numbers. The car is an real RS and an SS350 clone.

BTW: I couldnt pass it up. I should have it in my garage wednesday!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the help MM.
