Cool 327 Won't Turn Over with Lights on

I have a 1968 Camaro w/327. 1000 miles on rebuild. Runs great and purrs like a kitten. Having problems starting (won't turn over) however when lights/heater/brakelights/parking lights are on or any kind of power draw. When all power consuming features are off, turns over and starts just fine.

Recently tightened and cables from battery to the starter. But I'm thinking a bad cable? New battery installed a month ago.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

JV

Check all your grounds, start with the ones under the hood. Make sure your negative battery cable connection to the engine block is good, and that you still have a ground strap jumping from the block to the body.

"ground strap jumping from the block to the body" Hey 69, is this a mandatory item? I'm rebuilding my 68 after many years of disassembly and dont remember taking one off.

Hi Smee78,

I just put my 68 back together (mine did not have a block to body strap either) and yes...you def need a strap from the block to the frame (mine is on the passenger side by the starter) and another from the block to the body. I bolted mine from a valve cover hold down bolt to a screw on the firewall. Got my brass strap kit at Harmons at www.harmons.com. Comes with instructions showing locations as well. nice kit!

NAPA has the straps too... and you don't have to pay shipping
