302
I am trying to prove to my dad that chev built a 302 for the Camaro. When I talk about a 302 made by chev he says no the 302 is aFord engine. He got mad at me for disagreing with him. Can I get a link to a website with strong facts.
camarosource .com or .ca or whatever...
they put 302's in 1st gens to meet requirements for the trans am racing league or whatever...but other than that, gm did not carry on the 302 and it is known as a ford engine

While many people are more familar with the Ford 302, let me assure you that the 302 in the '67, '68, and '69 Z/28 was a Chevy motor through and through. The Chevy 302 was a destroked 327 cid obtained by putting a 283cid crankshaft in a 327cid block, this had been a popular hot rodder's trick for many years before Chevy did so in '67. It was a very high compression engine with a solid lifter camshaft allowing very high revving, all fed by a large Holley carb, the factory rated 290HP was extremely "conservative" with the actual HP ratings in the 350-450HP range depending on where you look/read. I believe that the Chevy 302 was actually in production and available for purchase before the Ford 302 was as Ford was still running the 289cid engine in the '67 Trans Am Series. Andoh yeah, the Chevy 302 Z/28 combination kicked Ford's butt in the Trans Am Series.

All small block Chev. engines use the same motor mounts in a particular car, i.e. 302, 307, 327, 350 all use the same motor mounts in a Camaro, the 396 and 427 big blocks used a different motor mount in the Camaro. So yes, you can "bolt it right in" if you are dealing with a small block Camaro.

Hey Young Jedi... Not only did Chevy make the 302 that beat Ford's 289 in 1967(the Ford 302 wasn't made until 1968, and the Boss 302 was rated at the same 290 hp. that Chevy made) Everyone competes..
Anyhow, Chevy stopped the 302 production due to the increasing butt whoopin it was putting on their Special car the Corvette... Not nice when your intermediate size family car was putting the kickass on the Vette... That's not the complete reason but it had a healthy hand in the decision...

You really want to mess with your dad tell him you want a Dodge Trans AM with a factory 302.
Mopar built a challenger with TA on the side with a modified version of their 340 destroked to a 302.
