Default TH-350 issues

I have a TH-350 behind a 350 SB in my 68 Camaro.. A while back, say 6 months ago, I had my torque converter lock up. I disconnected the lines at the radiator and flushed the system. Lots of nasty came out! Got everything cleaned out and the lock up was fixed. Drove fine for awhile. Then it starting losing drive. I managed to make it home. I can not get it to go into drive. reverse seems to be working fine. I have checked the shift cable it it moves through all the positions as normal and is tight. I'm not sure where I should go from here. I'm dropping the tranny tonight. Once I pull the pan I'll have a better idea if there's junk in the bottom, but I'm still leaning toward it being the converter causeing this problem since I have reverse. Low/revers are the same band is my understanding. I've never torn a tranny apart so I'm not real sure about it's operation. I'm looking for some info as to what else may be wrong or causeing this...I have a B&M 2800 stall which will be going in this thing.

How did your converter lock up, did it kill the engine? I don't see your present problem being the converter though. It doesn't turn backwards when you go in reverse. The engine and converter are operating the same no matter what gear you're in, other than changes in RPM. Since you had a lot of "nasty" in the fluid before, I'm leaning towards you still having crap in the trans, and possibly some small passages in the valve body could be clogged too.

You can never get all the metal parts out of a transmission that has a damaged torque converter without a tear down. Even with a small amount of torgue converter noise a tear down is recomended. The torque converter is on the wrong side of the filterany small metal shaving pay havic with the valve body andcut seals. Sound like you lost your first gear clutch pack seal oryou have astuck valve. Either way you need a new converter and a complete tear down not only to fix whats broke but to get the rest of the little chips out of there.

Got everything off and down last night. I haven't opened the pan yet. I'll do that tonight. Tearing down a tranny is the only thing I have never done on a car. I have a great book on the TH-350 which I'm sure is going to be my best friend. I bought this book 20+ years ago. Looked it over last night, and I guess I'm going for it. Just hope I don't have bushing problems..That appears to be an issue if you don't have the right tools...Be taking lots of pics on this one...
