T5 from a ford
Hello, everyone.
I can pick up an inexpensive T5 with a bunch of parts for a Ford.I'm wondering what the differences are between the input shaft for that transmission and one that I would need to go behind a big block chevy in a 68 Camaro.I would appreciate any input thank you

.What year T-5? The early ones where only good for about 200 ft/lbs of torque. In the Late 80's they came out with the WC T5 which was good for about 250 lb/ft of torque. The only V8 GM put the WCT5 behind was 305. They would not put behind even the late 80's 350 because it could not handle the torque. In 93 Camaro got the T56 that was good for 360 ft/torque. In 94 the T56 was regeared so it could handle 450 ft/lbs of torques. Even that would not hold up long to a decent big block.
The issue limiting torque is not the gears inside as those could be upgraded the problem is the Aluminum case. It cannot hold the gears in place they flex and crack. So there is no way to get any GM t5 parts that will make T5 work behind the insane torque of a big block. Ford put a different version for the T5 in its 04 ish Cobra but I think that transmission has more in common with a Tremec TKO 5 speed aftermarket transmission which would work with big block but you are not going to find GM parts to fit it. Maybe you can machine a fly wheel to work with Ford clutch? You will still need to figure a aftermarket release bearing. I have never heard of anyone doing it. Most guy just get the Upgraded T56 or the TKO 5 speed. I know next to nothing about the Cobra 5 speed but I think is you did have one you could sell the ford version for as much as a new TKO 5 speed would cost you.
