Noise (clicking) When Clutch Released...
in my 69 Camaro (Muncie).
I got stuck in traffic (afternoon Texas heat) so I was using the clutch more than usual in the stop & go traffic. After getting through it and after a short stint on the freeway, at my first stop I noticed a medium to loud clicking noise when the clutch was released. Several years ago, I had a release bearing go out that made noise with the clutch in either position. I just jacked it up to troubleshoot and the clicking sounds like it's coming from inside the bell housing...but only when the clutch is released. When pressed in, it goes away. I thought I heard a quieter clicking a few times going through a drive through while next to a building (making any sound more noticeable). Anyway, what do you guys think before pulling the transmission? Release bearing? |
can you put the car up on jack stands and put it into gear while listening under the car?
I agree that it seems like the throw out bearing or maybe the spring fingers that hold it on to the clutch fork broke making it loose when not under pressure. |
I hate to admit that I haven't repaired it yet but I feel confident it's the release bearing.
I bought a C5 and another motorcycle so I've put the Camaro on the back burner. |
