Need help with a swap
 
I have a '69 camaro that had a 400 sbc backed by a powerglide. Shortly after putting on the road the poweglide failed. So I took it off the road and it was time for a swap. I decoded to go with a th350 because everyone says "its a direct fit" well thats where my question stems from... I bolted the th350 up to my 400 and have it dropped in the car. Everywhere Ive searched says both the th350 and powerglide use the same crossmember, but it isnt working out for me. The tail of the trans rests on the crossmember but the trans mounting location comes up short on the crossmember. Any help would be great. I appreciate it.

Then you have something screwy going on there. The short tail TH350 and the Powerglide are the same length, have the same output spline count, have the same trans mount position, and use the same crossmember. Was the slushbox you took out an aluminum case, or the old (62 and older) cast iron model?

Not to question your knowledge, but are you absolutely certain that was a powerglide that came out?

No insult to my knowledge Camaro 69. Im a 21 year old kid this is my first project car Im constantly learning more as i continue to tinker with it. I am not 100 percent if it was a 2speed powerglide, I never actually decoded any of the numbers... but it looks almost identical to the th350 I bought and I only had 2 gears. Being just a kid I wasnt going to do a swap unless I had to. Well I had to went the two speed lost the high gear and i had crawl home doing 15 miles an hour. By the time I got my car almost nothing was original from my car other then the interior. Ps. I recently moved cross country but work for an airline so I have flight benefits. So Im trying to figure out my issue so I can correct it on a short trip home one of these days. I can tell you the th350 i bought was out of a 63 c10. He informed me that it was the short tail model. The th350 came in 3 size tail housings do you know the correct length for my vehicle?

With that being said I also have a muncie 4 speed. I dont have all the parts for the conversion yet because Im on a budget. I do however have the gearbox, correct flywheel for a sbc 400 and a "621" bellhousing. clearly missing clutch, clutch pedal assembly, shifter and associated linkage. In your opinions is it worth trying to solve this auto problem, or just save up the money for the missing parts. and try to convert my car?

The TH350 for your car should have a 6" tail housing. A longer model would work, but you'd have to have your driveshaft shortened. No matter which tail length though, on the TH350 or powerglide, the trans mount point is still the same distance from the bellhousing back. Do you still have the powerglide? On that link I gave you, it shows the different pan shapes, that's the easiest way to tell which trans is which. As far as the Muncie, that's a conversion that's going to be a bit more work. You'll have to decide which you'd rather have, an automatic or stick.
