400 turbo problem

I have a 69 Camaro with a 509 Merlin putting out 600hp with a 400 turbo and a ford 9" rearend with 3:55 and detroit lockar. I have had this combo for about 8 years with very few problems with the trans. I use 150 shot of nitrous at the track with 9" slicks. It will run consistently 10.8 @127mph. The last time which was a year ago that I had the trans rebuilt, it developed a little noise that is hard to describe in first gear kinda like a spinning bearing, but it did not do this all the time, kinda like a ghost. I haven't had it at the track or used nitrous on it in this time. A few weeks ago I was preparing to go to the track, so I took it out, stalled it up to about 2500 rpms a few time, the noise got really load, and the next thing I know it's blowing fluid out the vent, my trans rebuilder took it apart and the case is broken inside where the big locking ring that hold everything in and has about 15 or so lugs that it locks behind has about 6 lugs broken off. TCI told him to put a case support in the trans for whatever reason, but I have never heard of thiis happening and I can't find anything on the internet about this type of breakage. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I am new to Camaro forum, but I am not new to working on cars, This one has me baffled.
