need help replacing 1967 camaro leaf springs
 
I'm installing new multi-leaf springs using Summit install kit OER-R363. I have no idea how to install the new front clip nuts contained in this kit. I believe they need to go inside the frame rails.? the clip suggests they should slide over the edge of a piece of sheet metal which doesn't make sense. Also have no idea how to remove old front bracket as the existing clips just spin. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Age old problem. The OE nuts are held in place by the 'fingers' stamped from the clip and steel rusts.

The remedy I did on several Camaros' is I bought a flea market 9/16 inch combination wrench, measured from the slit in the frame rail to the center of the bolthead, and using the blue wrench - oxy/acet torch, bent the wrench to a right angle so the wrench can fit through the slot and the box end now sits over the nut and you can unscrew the bolt - maybe.

If you unscrew the bolt and it tightens up, spray WD40 into the hole and screw back into place. Repeat last sentence as needed until bolt comes out.

Another route is cutoff the bolt head and push the clip/nut into the frame rail.
Install the new clips and fill frame structure with Great Foam sio the pieces don't rattle around while driving.

Yes, they do slide over the edge, ingenious idea for assembly line assembly.
Remember to use antiseize thread compound - it is your buddy for later in life.
Use it to lube the spring bushings and use silicone grease for the rubber bushings.
lower Camaro to the ground and then tighten the shackle bolts with weight on the axle.
Recheck bolt torque all the time until you are comfortable with tightness at next torque check.

Had to deal with this same exact issue a few months back... I used a dremel and cutoff wheel to cut off the bolt heads and knock the rest out.

Everett.... you might appreciate this... the owner before me, instead of using the oe J-nuts or whatever they're called... stick welded a nut to a metal rod so it could be held in place while screwing the bolt into the leafspring cup.
