Default 69 camaro handling

i have a 69 camaro with a full aftermarket suspension setup and it handles great, except for the steering, it is original. manual steering with about 4 inches of play from left to right, also it takes 6 full turns of the wheel to go from far left to far right.... i heard getting a third gen quiock ratio steering box could fix this.... but i know less than nothing about steering.... any ideas on how to fix this would help... by the way im a poor college student so taking it to a shop and getting rack and pinion steering installed is not an option unfortunatly... thanks

I don't believe that will work because they are total different geometry. you can get a quick ratio, or variable ratio out of a second gen (I did) and that will work great. I actually got a WS6 box out of a second gen T/A and sent it out and had it blueprinted. all you have to do is remove the pitman arm and turn is 180 degrees in the oppostie direction becuse th ebox is on the opposite side of the linkage

I'm pretty sure that you can buy an after market quick ratio steering from classic industries or some other aftermarket company.

The junkyard WS6 will be easier on his budget though.

Look for the variable ratio unit. it is quite lovely at speed.
