Made the final decision on paint colors today. The color is the gray from the Eleanor Mustang from Gone in Sixty Seconds (Dupont pepper gray). The shop was working on hanging the front panels. On a good note, the fiberglass hood fits much better than I thought it would since it cost half the price as the ones sold at the bigger vendors (bought it on e-bay). Got one of the door's handles shaved and the trunk lock as well. A couple more pics and the sample spray with black stripes so I can see the contrast.

Went and saw the car yesterday. Getting disappointed in how much filler they have found in about every panel. Now replacing the trunk lid and front upper valence because as they started removing paint, they found poor repairs and filler. Cheaper to buy new than pay $60/hour for the to repair these... On a good note, they've finished shaving the door handles and trunk lock. Most everything is aligned, and the door gaps are about perfect. As soon as the new valence and trunk lid arrive, probably about 10 more hours of aligning stuff and then on to primer and blocking. They say probably couple weeks of blocking before it's ready for color. My priority are even, tight gaps, flat/straight panels, and high quality paint. unfortunately, I've already spent about $10K and all that's done on my list are the gaps. But I'll have an excellent foundation to last years with almost no mud in the car.

A couple more pics.

OK, for everyone's reference. It costs about $16K to replace every exterior piece of sheetmetal, align everything, smooth firewall, some frame repairs/powdercoating, and get pretty perfect gaps. I thought the only panels that would need to be replaced was the rear sail panel, and front fenders. Well, it turns out every panel except cowl, rockers, and roof needed to be replaced. A LOT more bondo than the old magnet trick found... But on a good note, Monday the car goes to the paint side of the shop. Time to start priming/blocking.

A couple pics from today.

Well, it's been a little bit now. The car is just a couple weeks away from coming home to be put back together. There is actually color on the car now (underside, firewall, interior). I can't wait to get her home and start putting things together. WAY more expensive than I originally thought though. Has anyone put a double din stereo in their 1st gen? I don't have a custom center console, but was thinking about putting a double din GPS/DVD above the ashtray in the dash where the A/C vent hole is (expanding the hole somewhat).

The color in the pictures don't really match the real color.

Thanks. I got to help out with some wet-sanding this week and now the car is ready for paint. It's all prepped and paint starts flying Monday morning. To say I'm excited with be an understatement. Here's a couple more pics from today.
