Default 1969 RS Convertible Project Car Value???

Hi folks, I'm looking at a couple different 1969 Camaro RS convertibles that both are in need of some fairly extensive restoration work. My question is simple, for a car that has some sheet metal work completed, has most of the interior but is missing the engine and tranny, what would be a fair price to offer? They are both RS convertibles with the 350 engine and 4 speed options. I'm just looking for some opinions on what such a vehicle is worth in today's market. Thanks much from another new member and hopefully soon Gen 1 Camaro owner!

It's near impossible to put a number on this without knowing a lot more. You'd need to get an estimate on a full restoration almost to really know what value is left there. Asking prices on cars like this are usually too high, so I'd say not much because resto costs will probably exceed the value of the finished car even if you do the work yourself. All I can say is good luck, seems like any 1st gen car is gold plated as a seller these days no mater how bad a shape it's in. What are they asking for them, that might give us something to work with, can you put up some pictures? Any new resto parts come with the cars? Also not having the original engines or trans makes for a big hit in value, they will never be 100% restorable without them.

Thank you Y2K! Your assessment is spot on with what I've experienced during my hunting expedition. The car that I am most interested (at the moment) only has a new convertible top (not yet installed) as far as resto parts is concerned. The asking price on this 1969 RS convertible is $19,500 and I think that's much too much but wanted another opinion or two or three. You're also right about the magic question of what value will be left after investing a decent amount of cash into a restoration. And while that is of some concern, it seems most of these project cars are a balancing act between the start point, the needs and what you're willing to spend to have it your way. Since I'm after a 69 RS convertible, it's pretty slim pickings out there and/or I'm looking in the wrong place. I'm sort of past the matching numbers issue at this point, I've got a nice small block in the shop looking for a new home. I've pasted in a couple different shots of the car that I'm most interested in at the moment. Hopefully these come through okay..

Looks like it has potential but way too much money IMHO for what there is there. I can't see more than $5k there if that.
Look at some of these like the '68 ragtop that had a carb fire for $3900.

Some here that are way less money and more complete too.

Of course they will have salvage titles so that would affect resale but that doesn't so much mater if you are doing the build as a keeper for yourself.

Here's one not an RS but cloning one is pretty easy, overpriced as well but more complete. https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d...483349795.html

Check this one out, drive it home and clone an RS out of it,you could most likely get it for close to the asking price of the car you posted.

Thanks much for the feedback and the links.. I was thinking I could swallow an investment of 10k on that one and with a 25k resto budget it puts me around 35k invested, which might make it tolerable since I have a 350 and transmission looking for a home. But as you said these shells seem to be gold plated today.. I have scanned those salvage sites and the prices seem to be good, (so good it makes me cautious). I guess my big hesitation with those was the salvage titles... But I guess if you're going to gut something anyway a little scorched paint, a dent or water isn't going to matter in the end, just drive it.!

And thanks for those links Y2K, you've given me another angle here.!! I do like both of those you sent, each has a different appeal and as you say, cloning to the RS features wouldn't be out of the question.
