Seat-belt restoration

So I was trying to find something to do that wouldn't cost any money....;)

Seat-belts! Mine were all stiff as a board, caked with mud, rust and corrosion. The Buckles were all the same.

Well, after some careful dis-assembly, I was ready to start cleaning. The buckles are sitting in an electrolysis bath right now, and the rust is falling off. The belts themselves have been run through the DISHWASHER, 2-3 times - you would not believe how good they look!

Now I just need to buff all the couplers and reassemble.

It would have been great if you took some pictures, everyone here loves pictures.

i would like to dye my belts but can not seem to find the interior spray paint ( dye ) I used years back on a tan sunvisor to dye it black. it worked awesome. any ideas?

Get some Ritz dye and run them through a tub of that. You can Google Ritz dye.

"Ritz" are crackers, the name of the dye is "RIT". Don't mix them up, but one does taste better than the other (not telling which).

After the thorough cleaning, i still had some sun fade on several of the belts. I purchased a bottle of Rit black dye on EBAY. Soaked he belts in HOT water, half bottle of dye, for an hour. The belts look almost new. He only thing that didnt cover up was the rust stains.

I know, pictures would be helpful, i just kept forgetting to take some

I found the airasol dye.
@ Parts Plus auto store
its Duplicolor Vynil & Fabric Spray in Flat Black
the belts look great after a couple coats and it dries fast.
Now back to the head liner.. not fun w/ the glass & full interior still in.
went in fairly good but not easy to tuck it up tite with the glass still in.
