Offenhauser engines?

Default Offenhauser engines?

I’m in the process of restoring my mother in law’s original owner ‘68. Ive been told it doesn’t have the original motor in it. Anybody know much about Offenhauser motors?

No, just an Offenhauser valve cover for decoration on a Chev L6 engine.

Chevy straight six with an Offy intake and valve cover,the intake manifold is an upgrade for performance albeit not much. lol
Usually accompanied by a split exhaust manifold for dual exhaust or a header but not so on yours,if original motor it should be a 250 cid.

From what I’ve been told it’s not the original. The intent was to figure out if it wasn’t some sort of race engine that needs a good home as the direction for this restoration will be modern turn key drivetrain.

Well original or not it's just a Chevy inline six which is likely what the car started life with.
Just like the small block V-8 they came in several sizes,194,216,230,235,250,292 and others but most common in the late 1960's was the 230 used in all sorts of cars and trucks and industrial use like forklifts and generators etc. It's probably a 250 which even if not original to the car is likely what she came with from the factory.

I misspoke on the 250,it would have been a 230 but externally they look the same.

Left of the distributor on a pad on the block is the engine code and date.
Take picture and post here and/or look up and find out what it is.
