Default What did I buy? '69

Hey all... curious as to what I brought home tonight. You cant tell very well, all the parts are in the trunk and inside and some are missing. I picked this up for the price of the sheet metal investment by the previous owner.. $1500. There is some rust here and there, they did some work, but there is lots left to do. The guy said it was too much for him.. I have tackled some pretty rusty VW busses, but this will be my first camaro. Dont look impossible to me.. No engine or trans, it was a project in process. My plans are to resurect this beast and get it back on the road with a big block. Not sure what the numbers on the cowl mean.. so I thought I would ask you all.. it does have disc brakes and he said it had a ford 9" rearend. Anyone got any seats at least need a back seat Here goes the numbers..

ST69 12437 NOR 319 360 BDY
TR ? 715 51 51 PNT
05A X11

Thats about it. Appreciate any info or where I can look up some numbers. Like to see what model this was and what the original colors were, etc etc

Color: Dusk Blue
Interior: Blue with Bucket seats
X11 is a tuff one I thouhgt it was COPO butit allaboutthe trim package . But if I read it right 44% of the 69s are X11
Date Built: First week in May 69

X11*
non-SS396, non-Z2X11*
includes SS350

Whats the vin? Itwill list the engine option. Seems you have very few opions. You got a great deal. I watch a cowl tag sell on Ebay for $1500 oh andDon't post the last 5 numbers of your vin!!!

Here you go: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes

Thanks for the info Gorn. Just what I was looking for. SS would be nice You would think something in the trim tag would indicate the disc brake option as I bet then were mostly drum that old of a car.

The VIN is 124379Nxxxxxx

Thanks again..

Looks like it's in pretty solid shape with some new metal on it, and for $1500, not a bad deal either. Here's the breakdown for the trim tag:
ST69: Model Year 69
12437: Coupe
NOR: Assembly Plant-Norwood, Cincinnati Ohio
319360 BDY: Sequential Body Number
TR715: Interior Trim-Blue, Standard
51 51 PNT: Upper & Lower Body Color-Dusk Blue
05A: Build Date: 05=May, A=First Week
X11: Exterior Trim Code-Style Trim Group

The breakdown on the 124379N VIN is as follows:
12-same on all 67-69 Camaros
4-V-8 engine
3-coupe
7-also same on all 67-69
9-year, 69
N-Norwood Plant

Now about the X11 Code: it wasused for thebase6 and 8 cylinder models, as well as the SS350 model.
Neither your trim tag nor the VIN will tell what engine package the car came with. You would need either the build sheet or the code off the original engine block to be able toknow what you have.
The SS 350 came with power front disc brakes which yours has, but you don't know if that or any other options were ever added on, which isn't difficultto do.Unfortunately, without the engine or build sheet, there is no way to prove with certainty what it was.
No matter, give it life again, and what it will be is another awesome 69 Camaro!

I forgot to add, if you want to check out Camaro production info, go to:

It certainly appears to be in better shape than many I've seen, I think with a little love, work, and money you'll have a nice first gen.

Thanks for all the info Camaro. Looks like I got a good bases for a rod. Sounds like without the correct engine, I aint got nothin special. Kinda glad, I always wanted one of these with a big block so that is the direction I will head with it.

Looks to be a 4spd car also. Take a pic of the rear end so we can see if its a9" or not, a 9" will not have a bolt on rear cover, a 10 bolt GM will have 10 bolts holding on the rear cover and a 12 bolt will have 12 bolts holding it on. It has a small block heater core so you might have to change it to a big block heater core if you put a big block in it. What size is the fuel line 5/16 or 3/8? Any dash and or guages?
nice find for the price

Here is a pic of the rearend. Not sure of the fuel line, its still on the trailer. I will clean the garage and make room for her tomorrow and dig in.. Normal gauges on the dash and 4 gauges down by the shifter.. I dont see a clutch, why do you think it was a 4 speed? Thanks for the info..
