Actually, the third digit would be a "3" for a 6 cyl., and a "4" for an 8. And the RS option was available with a 6 cyl, but you probably already knew that as well.

Didnt know that actually..But What would make it RARE?The fact it was RS or the fact it was SS??? Obviously the RS/SS option would be more rare than either singularly..But what would YOU prefer if it were RS? OR SS?

And obviously, if I purchased the car, it would be a crime if I didnt restore it to Stock form right?

wont really matter if original motor and trans are gone!!! and that should be reflected in selling price!!

Out of a total run of 220,906 67's built...
64,842 RS packages sold.
29,270 SS350 packages sold.
5,141 SS396 packages sold
No data that I know of on the SS/RS combinations, but that would be more rare yet, especially a 396 RS.
Again, the trim tags were pretty informative on the 67 models, so it will tell what you have.
And yes, if it is a rare car, it would be smart (value wise) to restore it to factory specs. If given the choice, I'd prefer both combinations. But if given only one, I'd take the SS as it was a performance option. RS was an appearance option.

I got one more question... It says the letter "P" was the correct code for a 350SS but NOT in cars made in NORWOOD until early October..However I am looking at an SS with a NOR stamp and produced in the 4th week of march, with the "4P" SS code....

Any idea if thats legit?

October was for 66 (October of 67 was the 68 model year). Your car was made in 67 so 4p would = 350SS

SS value is Greater then RS

Even without the original drive line the car has a greater value then a base model. Even if you choise not to restore it just don't cut it up so the next guy has the option and the value will stay.

Not from the factory in 67. I think that was a 68 thing. It was a very popular upgrade in the 70's and the 80's.

I went and looked at a 1967 Camaro SS. Advertised as driver condition, with some trunk rust. The guy was asking 15500 and all numbers matched on the cowl tag to the proper options. The upon face value looked good, and fairly clean..It was driver quality, but not show quality with quarters and fenders and paint in 2006. I was pretty stoked when I saw it...UNTIL.......I went under the car.

The front subframe was good, the floors were usable but would need replacing eventually...But the trunk area...OMG..The rear shock mounts were rusted pretty bad, and they were ready to come through..The rear frame rails at the spring mounts were trashed pretty good..The cars structure would need to be repaired extensively, which was not what I was looking for at the time..I passed..

What I cant understand is how someone replaces rear quarters, but leaves the frame rails and trunk rusted..

These are some pictures of the cars exterior.

Looks nice on the outside....surprise!!! So, you're not gonna shoot him a low-ball offer in consideration of the structural rust? What if it was cheap enough, would it be worth it then, or are you not looking for a project?
