Default Were all 69 BB camaros SS or RS?

I found out my car was originally a BB Car built in Norwood OH.

Does that mean it was an SS car? I did not think they put Big Blocks any anything but SS or RS cars?

Is there a way to tell if my car was an original 4 Speed car?

What's your vin number? That and I believe another number contains info on what trim, color, transmission, and engine it had

The answer is Yes! SS

RS is simply a trim code

Thanks!

That should make the general value of the Car go up! I though maybe someone took a 6 cnyl Aut car and built a Yenko Clone. But if it's a real SS BB car That should help if I ever want to sell.

Thanks again.

As for the value of the car....yes and no. If you don't have a matching numbers motor or same size 396 then probably not. The muscle car market is fickle, purest insist on a numbers matching motor or at least another 396 with a block stamp authenticating it as a 69 block. So if you have 350 in it and it was a bare bone SS without many options it may advertise better, but may not yield a much higher selling price.

Good thing is there are still quite a few 396 motors in the world as opposed to say a Z/28 302.

How do you "know" it was a b.b. car, does it have the proper X code on the trim tag?

Not all big blocks were SS. The only things you can say were "all" is the DZ code 302 and the Z/28, and the COPO and the 427. An SS could have almost any V-8, but having a V-8 didn't mean it was an SS.

There were two and three speed autos, and three and four speed manuals. There were two straight six offerings, and tons of V-8s - 283, 302, 307, 327, 350, 396, and 427. I think there may have even been some 265 V-8s out there. Then you add the "factory-backed" dealerships like Yenko and others that would do even more alterations than have been catalogued, and it gets real confusing.

Your best bet is to check your VIN plate for the codes and compare them to a reputable, complete listing. Good luck!

Not to start an argument, but in first gen Camaros, the 396 was an SS only option. The 265 was a 1955-56 vintage engine.

That's a great listing that obviously a lot of time went into. However, it completely missed the 427 powered cars, and although "official" records may not reflect it, there were both 396 badged non-SS cars roaming the streets, and completely non-badged cars with various motors available and out on the streets.

Notice the "6 different variations" - they had a bunch of optional stuff offered.

There was a 265 and a 262. The 265 was offered three times, as I remember it, and they weren't the same every offering - the bore and stroke were altered between versions. I honestly didn't keep up on any 265 or 262 motor lineages at the time, as they were throw-aways.
