Default transmisson leaks

Hi, my 68 M4 has transmission leaks in a couple of spots. One shop quoted me little over $900 to repair. I also seem to have a difficulty downshifting to 1st gear and reverse. I'd like to get a couple of more quotes. Does anyone have any ideas on this quote? if anyone lives around Naperville, IL area, have any good shops specializing in classic cars in the area? Thanks.

As for the price, It depends on what work you were quoted. Camaro 69 may know someone in the Chicago area that fixes those things.

I know some people who I trust, if you want to travel out to the Barrington area. I'm not familiar with who's in the Naperville area though. Having a transmission leak isn't limited to classic cars, so an experienced mechanic could handle that part. One common place to get a leaker is with the speedometer gear housing, and that's an easy fix. Other leak points could be at the side cover, or the input or output shaft seals (those are a little more involved). The shifting problem is another issue, which may just be due to needing a shift linkage adjustment, or having worn linkage bushings.

thanks but yah, Barrington would be a bit ouf of the way. I can see that there are two different spots where there are leaks, looks to be around the transmission area. When I got the quote, they did not specify where the leak.
