Default Stripes

New to list. As I mentioned in my new member introduction I owned a 1969 Camaro in High School. It was a year old and was hugger orange with a black vinyl top, spoiler and a black stripe.

If my memory is correct (good luck with that!) the car had a black stripe around the nose forward of the hood. I have never seen another 69 with that only 68 models.

I am retired and restore cars for a hobby. To date I have restored a Lotus and a TVR.
I would like to find a 1969 Camaro to restore.

Is there a way to find the vin of my old car if I have the license plate number? The car was registered in NJ.

Looking forward to an informative and fun experience.

Welcome to the site. I'm no expert but I believe the RPO Code - D90 was the striping option for the 68 & 69 Camaros. The 68's were the only year having the stripe across the header panel and down the fronts of the fenders while the 69's had the "hockey stick" stripe down the side only. I do not believe there were any stripes across the header panel in 1969 from the factory. Is it possible that someone added the striping afterwards using stripes from a '68? I could be wrong, and if someone knows otherwise, let me know. As far as getting the VIN, I would try and contact the NJ Dept of Motor Vehicles to see if they hold those types of records. Might be worth a shot. Good luck!

Default stripe

The car was purchased from an Oldsmobile dealer's used car lot. I always thought it might have been a rebuild.

I wonder if New Jersey DMV would be able to locate the information for me. I will try.
