Default Steering Box question

Attempted to install power steering in my 69 and when I received my gear box it would not fit because of my BB and headers. So my next option is to install a manual steering gear box with a power seteering feel. Does anyone know the original ratio of the manual gear box's installed and what would you recommended for a ratio that has a power steering feel? Also anyone know where to purchace one? Have seen one on Heartbeat City for around $320.

Thanks in Advance Fernando

There are a couple of other things you could do too. The B.B. cars used different motor mount frame brackets that purposely kicked the engine over to the passenger side to give more clearance for the exhaust/steering box. Even with that, sometimes the header pipes need to be "clearanced" to make way for the box. Another option would be to retrofit a C3 Vette style power steering unit. C3's uses a conventional steering box, and a power steering pump, but has a separate ram that attaches to the drag link to give power assist. I don't personally know of anybody who has tried that conversion, but I wouldn't be surprised. If interested, I can compare my 69 Camaro and 69 Vette to see what the clearances look like.

Camaro 69,
Thanks for the reply. I think my easiest option is to go with a quick ratio gear box. What is the standard ratio these 69 came with and what manual ratio gear box would be easier to turn?

Check out pozziracing.com, click on " First Gen Suspension" then find steering box ratio info. Has all ratios manual and power steering listed.
