Smile Reccomendation on Ceramic Headers.

Hey,

I have shorty headers on my 69 and I had to pound the drivers side in to get clearance for the Power steering, I'm going to be getting new long tube ceramic coated headers and with what these cost I wanted to get some feedback from the folks that have them!

I was looking at these: any comments, Do they fit the power steering correctly???

I made 1 call to these guys based on recomendation from so-cal chevy engine builder. My 350 headers were an easy fit but Sanderson Headers specializes in tight fit kits.

I'm not a BB guy, but I seem to remember a friend with 69 BB mentioned that his BB Hookers fit around his ps unit, but he had to dimple his set of Hookers for his sb. Of course that was years ago and as time goes by my C.R.S. syndrome leaves me scratching my head at times.

Default Header clearance problems

I just went through the same thing on my 69 Camaro convertible. I bought the long tube ceramic coated headers from Summit # SUM-G9101 and wanted a power steering box and pitman arm that would clear. I called Jim Berther in Mesa, Arizona and got exactly what I needed. He claimed that there is a special steering box and pitman arm combination that would clear everything. He was right on and I highly recommend this combination. I had absolutely no problems. Jim sells a factory rebuilt 3 turn steering box, new pitman arm, and new rag joint all for $295. and that includes shipping and insurance. Jim is a great guy. Give him a call. 602 751-0454 And the Summit headers fit perfect. Didn't have to file holes or modify in any way.The headers were
$299.95

You may have trouble with all headers if your car does not have BB frame mounts to move the BB engine to the passenger side one inch.

^ I was thinking that too. Or, his problem could be that he already has big block frame mounts, as they are almost an inch lower than the small block mounts are. BB frame mounts were made lower to allow for hood clearance.

The drivers side mount is taller and the passenger mount is shorter. This moved the engine to the right side of the car one inch so the exhaust would clear the steering box. Dont believe it had to do with hood clearance because BB cars did not have flat hoods.
