Re-chroming bumpers

Re-chroming bumpers
Really needing some sound advice on this one. I will be re-chroming my original bumpers on a 1967 Camaro. Where is the BEST place to go, and what kind of price is reasonable? I just got a quote from Superior Chrome Plating in Houston, TX for $450 to $500 each. I have no idea if this is good or bad or reasonable. Please help. Thank you for your input.

It is hard to figure without first seeing the item to be chromed. The old chrome has to be stripped, any dents or scratches need to be removed. After the prep a good job requires that the piece be copper plated for the electrolysis be consistent and then depending on how thick the chrome is to be applied. You need to talk to several plating outfits and find out exactly what they are going to do, and then talk price. Otherwise sight unseen they are going to charge for the worst case to cover their ****.

I agree, shop around. Some shops used to charge about 1/2 the price of a new bumper regardless of the work involved. Some charge by the hour and may do more work for the same money. Avoid mass production shops who turn them around in a day. You won't get any decent under-layer with those and they will rust later. Look for a shop that specializes in collector cars.
