Question about alternator on a 67 Camaro.
Probably not necessary to know it's a 67 Camaro since the engine is from a old Chevy truck and completely rebuilt. Anyways, it's my dads and he just picked it up, needs an alternator though.
It currently has part number 7127m-3. Looks to be a Driveworks remanned 61 amp.

So my question is what is a suitable replacement, something that will wire right up and fit the bracket. He wants a chrome one and maybe something pumping a little more juice.

Yes, a 61 amp is what that is. I'd jump to a 100 amp, which would be more than enough for his needs, unless he has a stereo amp that sucks a lot of juice. A standard Delco style alternator is what you're looking for. The car originally had an external regulator (and different type alternator), but that one is the newer internal style. The red jumper wire from the output stud to the plug terminal was needed to be put there to excite the voltage regulator.

When I replaced my external regulated alternator, I put on a one-wire. You don't need to do that if you don't want to, since adding that jumper wire makes it a "one-wire". And that always leaves you with the option of wiring it more like factory (an exciter wire further down the line) if you ever want to. The other wire on your alternator goes to the volt gauge, or idiot light. I got one of the chrome alternators from Summit, pretty sure it was the Summit brand, and it works just fine.
Oh, nice car by the way.

Hey thanks a lot for the information, very appreciated. Gonna have to try and get my dad to sign up here so he can get some inspiration from you dudes. I'm sure one of us will be back to pester you dudes for information when we put the brakes/suspension on it
So just to make sure, either of the two alternators linked below will work just fine?
