Default PUKED my engine over the Weekend... Any sugesstions on new motor?

Guys, Well the turd engine that was in the camaro started Knocking!!! It was a turd so I'm not upset...

But now I have the oppurtunity to put a new monster motor in it!

1. Questions, Should I stay with 427 since its a YENKO CLONE?

2. What is a Good Streetable HP? I was thinking around 500..?

3. At what HP do you need to put on Sub Frame connectors?

4. Is having a full roller system worth the extra cost for a street motor?

5. Any one know any engine builders in the Houston Area that they would recommend? or anywhere for that matter... I guess an engine can be shipped to the speedshop doing the install.

6. Any things you consider "MUST HAVES" on an engien build... 4 Bolt mains...Balanced...Roller...etc?

7. Builders are telling me they can get the HP I want with Iron heads...But should I upgrade to Aluminum?

8. Any crate engines you recommend? I'm trying to stay under 5k for the motor! I already have a great Carb and Intake so All i need is the Long Block!

Thanks, for all the Advice! ONE THINGS FOR SURE SOON IT WILL DEFIANTELY BE A SCREAMER!!!

Michael

That sure didn't take long! That's a bummer.
If I were you I'd consider one of the GM crate engines, and most probably a 454, as nobody will know the difference externally anyway. An original 427 would be way over your budget just to buy a core from 1969, so no reason to go that route for a clone.
This iron head 454 is slightly over your budget figure, but it's a great motor:

You might also consider using a lot of your existing parts like heads, intake, etc. and that will leave a lot of funds available to build from. A short block 454 would be much cheaper and that would be the best bang for the buck. Here's a 454 with forged pistons that will accept all your external parts and only set you back $2500, leaving the other $2500 for neat parts!

As for subframe connectors; I'd have them on ANY big block Chevy installation, but especially if it's making 400+ HP!

wow didnt you just buy that car!!??
anyway i would say 500hp is more than enough for a street engine!!
i would do like 71bb said and go with a 454 only a real numbers freak will know the differance!!
unless your drag racing and want to shave weight aluminum heads are over rated!!! iron are better for street use and can take alot more abuse hot cold cycles!!!

ok im just curious about a couple of things??
1. i thought it was a yenko clone with a 427 but you say here it is a 454??
https://camaroforums.com/forum/67-69-general-43/compression-check-50340/

2. did you drop something in the engine when you changed the intake that shelled it??? or did you put a different intake on a junk engine?

3.with all the issues your haveing with a frame off restored car like a bad weak *** motor 454 not 427, bad possibly 6 cylinder front springs, bad rear leaning leaf springs,
have you contacted the guy you bought it from about these issues as i would be stopping by with a baseball bat if i paid more than 15 g for something with all these issues!!?? so what gives???

Yes I just picked the car up on a Trade, and definatly do not have Frame Off Yenko Clone money in the car! It is a Frame off car and everything is new with the exception of a few things...Its puzzling...Someone poured a ton of money in this car and then cheaped out at the end... I mean they Took the Body off Powdercoated the frame, Every line is all new...Everything, All new interior...??? I guess if everything was perfect I would not have it because they would have been asking 50k for it...

My thoughts are I think someone ran out of money and painted up a junk motor to sell the car, and reused the tired springs... Economy went down and someone need to take it on the chin and wash their hands of it... but why go to the effort to do that I have no Idea... But 15k... Come on surely your not serious... you could'nt touch this car with no engine or transmission in it for under 25k I knew the engine was nothing special and a 454, I thought it may just need some tunning. Like I said it did not hurt my feelings too much because I was never going to be happy with crap performance...Now this car will get new springs and a the 500+HP engine it deserves!

Here are some pics so you can see the quality of the car: http://www.gearheadsdesign.com/1969yenko/

I'm going to venture to say with a killer motor and the minor issues addressed this will be one hell of a nice car worth a little more than 15k...

i bet a guy could find a nice rustfree 69 either 6 banger or 307 type car for 15,000 range and drop in a bb and there you go!
here is one a yenko clone with an acctual 427 that i bet the reserve is the starting bid of 30g!! (frame off resto as well)
