power steering issues

what are the symptoms of a power steering pump going bad?

I have a 69 daily driver with 203K on it and the steering moves freely when the car is cool but when it warms up after about 15 mins of driving the steering gets stiff almost like the lash is too tight, which I have loosened, sometimes it feels like the wheels are stuck in a rut and I have to jerk the wheel to get it un-stuck.
Any ideas???

thanks.[/align]

RE: power steering issues

With a bad pump, you'll hear a whiny "sawing" sound when you turn the steering wheel left to right, and it will be most noticeable when you go to full lock. It sounds more like your problem is with the steering box.
