My 68 is headed to the paint shop this week (been working to get to this point for a couple of years). The car is being painted black with a white SS stripe (D90 nose wrap with side stripe). Does anyone have dimensions of the stripe? I know I can order the stencil, but my paint guy would rather lay them out himself. He just completed a 67 (black with white rally stripes) and it's awesome, so I'm sure he can do it with a little info. Thanks for the help.

Hi Mike,
Ran into the same problem about 19 years ago on my stripes .. although mine are the SS variety .. the idea is the same. I spent weeks trying to figure out the dimensions. Went to car shows ... asked anyone that would let me ... if I could measure theirs ... what I found out is that not all were the same .. some a little closer than others ... some may have been re-paints .. not sure. In the end .. and saving a few more grey hairs .. I ordered the stencil kit .. you still have to lay it out correctly ... but all the so called dimmesions were there. If someone has recenlty ordered a kit .. they might be able to give you what those dimensions are in terms of spacing .. but the kit will not tell you the width of the stripe ... hense the need for the stencil. I do recomend that you paint the stripe first ... a good 3 coats of paint.. then the base color of the car .. again adequate coverage .. a light wet sand .. then several coats of clear ... every other coat wetsand ... then buff the heck out of it. One .. you will never feel a stripe edge ... and the look is outstanding ..
Long story short .. I would order the stencil kit though.

You mean these 1968 SS stripes D90 , If you can get a 1968 camaro factory assembly manual , there should be measurements . The stencil kit would be the easiest way to go. This is not my car , but I really think it looks sweeet.

Yea the factory stripe stops before the end of the door and these are thicker than factory , was using pic for reference, not to many people get the stripe laid out the right way. good luck with your search .

Well, here's a shot of my '68 in the booth. The body work turned out great. The car is straight, and the paint is awesome. I did get the stencil kit from NPD for the stripe. I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever get to this point. Now the project should pick up speed. Thanks to all of you who post questions and answers. Sure does help to search threads to get answers to problems quickly.
