New to Camaro
Hey all. I just recently obtained my first Camaro... A '68 327 4 speed car. A driver but needs work. Im new to carbs and Chevy builds. I will get pics up when I can. It was finished in the 80s and thus holds the typical street freak of that era scheme. (Gold 15" wheels with 6" fronts and over the top paint job). Unfortunately it sat for several years and has been neglected. It sits safe in my garage now next to my 94 Mustang GT. Im not a brand guy, just a car guy. I love to go fast and it doesnt matter how. My question is about the 327. Is it a 350 block with different internals? I.e can it be bored to 358? Is the block solid for medium horsepower applications? How good is the stock bore and stroke? Decent combo?

just a heads up all 327`s were 2 bolt mains so if you wanna go big on the bore you may wana find a 4 bolt block? is the 327 original to you 68? may want to set it in the corner if it is for resale down the road.

The 327 is original to the car. If they are two bolt I will just set the motor aside and find a 4 bolt 350 block. They are a dime a dozen around here. Thanks for the heads up! Im not worried about resale value as the car will never be sold. It was bought new by my wifes grandfather in 68 and has never left the family. It was given to my wife and I this Christmas as a Christmas present/wedding gift combo.

Well the good thing is that you own a Mustang which means you have quite a collection of tools laying around....sorry, old habits never die! If your looking to build a 350+hp motor you'll probably want to dump the 10 bolt 1 legger rear end too.

It's not that the 327 is a 350 block, but it's a shared block for more than one c.i. application as the bore diameter is the same.
Since you're going "medium" horsepower, the 2 bolt will be just fine.
It's when you're going with a high h.p., high compression, high winding combination engine when you need to be concerned with needing/wanting a 4 bolt.

Even more reason to keep all the original parts. You don't want future generation cursing you as the guy that messed up the families car. Your better off being the guy that saved everything so it can be put back stock in the future. What you concidered an upgade today will be seen as damaging the car 25 years from now

Haha Well I didnt come here expecting not to hear a few Ford jokes. Trust me, Ive heard most of them. I have considered several options. Im looking for a 350-400 hp car thats pretty but still fun to drive. My Dad has a 55 Bel Air so Im not new to the idea of show and go. The mustang is built for one thing and Im hoping to build more of an all around car with the Camaro. Im not particularly concerned with future generations as I expect this car will be passed on when Im good and dead and Im still a long way from that. Lol
