Is ebay the vendor of choice for these things?

Ebay is not bad nor craigslist, JUST NEVER BUY WITH OUT GOING TO SEE IT IN PERSON!!! or get an independent expert to go out to look at it for/with you (you can find one close to the cars location and I have seen them run from $300 to $800. find them through a car club in that area)

hey RichTJ99, if you are asking after the fender emblems, check out Ricks 1st Gen, National, CPP, or many others. The 1968 engine badges for a 350 run for around $16.00 each. you will need a left and a right, and for some reason on the 68 they are different parts on the website I just checked. (Ricks)

these parts are not hard to find, you can get about everything for the 1st gens. Paint, however, can be expensive. It is a pity some painters dont bother to get the stencils or do some research before painting stripes, especially when it is very obviously wrong. It will bug you. you can also find the stencil kits around;

For my 2 cents it is a neat looking convertible, and looks pretty good inside, outside, and underneath. You should definitely drive this car before considering buying it. You want to check the engine at startup, the transmission, steering, brakes, and the ride. If it is a first for you, then just be sure you like driving it, beyond the thrill that it is a first gen. make sure you like the feel and the old school features. If you dont, be honest about what you are going to change, because it will take time and money to make it into something else. good luck, they are a lot of fun, and super cool too

Hi,

So I was able to go look at the camaro today. It is definately a plain-jane (non-rs, non-ss) camaro that was dressed up. It started life as a Blue, then Red, now its 1999 Audi Green (I dont mind the color, its a forest green).

The top looks perfect & overall the car looks amazing to me.

I think the seller basically just wanted to 'make' a Camaro as he liked it. I have the following information:

Gears in 10 bolt are 3.08’s
No posi in 10 bolt
Engine is a 327
Transmission Turbo 350
Carb is a 4 BBL Quadrajet
Fisher body
Power Disc Brakes in front
Power steering
Color is from a 1999 Audi Green?
Cocktail Shakers installed on all four sides
X-brace near exhaust

Trim tag:

05E
68-12467 NOR144661
712
L2
ST
TR
99

Vin from window reg: 124678n445092

Trim tag does not match Vin.

There is a slight problem with the paint near the passenger door frame, he will fix it before i buy it. I am going to see if he can fix the stripe as well & maybe I will have him put a 350 emblem on it vs the current 396. He was planning on putting a 396 & didnt get around to it.

It is very clean & the car started right away. He mentioned it has a slight exhaust leak which he would fix it & also mentioned there was a noise in the rear bearing & he would address that too.

He is a full time mechanic who owns a shop in the area - he has a good mechanical reputation.

I'm not a forest green guy, but it still looks like a decent car. As far as the trim tag, the numbers aren't supposed to match. If they did, it'd strictly be a coincidence. My past experience with convertibles had me forming the curve in the rear window by hand as you lower it (you can see it start to break in the one pic) to avoid it forming a pinch or crease mark. Also, it wouldn't hurt to put a long skinny round pillow or rolled up towel in the valley the rear window makes as you put it down. That helps to prevent the window from rubbing against itself as you drive, leaving scuff marks.

So based on how it looks currently - including the incorrect front stripe - If the car is in good mechanical shape & it is clean inside & out - is it worth 22K?

Or is this the type of car that would only be wanted by someone like me - someone who wants a 1st gen Camaro? Meaning would the resale market be very limited?

Another few tattle tales that this is a stock '68 spruced up or a stock RS that someone's cloning into an RS/SS(I know because I'm doing it myself currently.) Unless you went to the unusual trouble of ordering a 1968 RS/SS without them, they came stock with the Tic Tock Tac where your fuel gauge is and factory gauges inset into the console.

Also, there is an extrernal trim package under both front and rear roll down windows that came stock on all SS and RS/SS's.

So, my experience tells me you have a nice 1968 Camaro, prossibly an RS that someone has put a lot of work. I'm guessing that it may have been an RS because someone went to a lot of trouble to install the RS grill and more importantly, RS rear valence with back up lights, which is a chore.

Anyway, my 2c. It looks like it's worth your $22k in my opinion as well. By the way, you HAVE to fix that nose stripe! . (Oh and get some ralley wheels on it. Those monster Cragar's and oversized tires make it look like a tractor.)

^ not all ss cars came with the tic toc tach. it was extra cost option to have. also the only way a tach was installed was if the car came with the gauges in the console. this car doesnt have them. so it should have a fuel gauge in the dash pod.

also the trim on top of the doors was a exterior appearance package that was a seperate from rs and ss cars. although most rs cars had them. but it was not standard on a ss car.
