LS1 Swap questions
 

I know there are some that are not very fond of updating to an LS1 and i was on the fence about it too. But i know a guy who has an LS1 that i can get for $225. All i gotta do is put it together. He is a good friend so i know i aint getting screwed over. Long story short, what do i need other than the engine for the swap. Im not sure what harnesshe has, if he even has one. but i am just looking for a list for everything i would need.

FYI- Mine is a '68 Standard with a 400 in it now.

Also can i keep my muncie 4 spd because i dont want the automatice 4l60e that he has. I want to keep it a manual trans.

I just finished with my ls swap. I'm sure I can help you if your going to do this. You will need to get a f-body oil pan for your ls swap. Figure on paying around $300 for it. I can give you my part number. Also, you will need to update your fuel tank. I bought one with in internal electric fuel pump (walbro 255). You'll need a corvette regulator/filter for your return line. I used aftermarket motor mounts (dirty dingo) with allowed me to use my current mounts with the ability to slide the engine forward or backwards upto 1 3/4 "s. You will need the PCM flashed and you will need to get the car tuned . I know i'm throwing a lot of information at you but it's really not that bad. I have no regrets about doing the swap. My car runs and performs beautiful. If your going to do the swap I will list all the part numbers I used. Good Luck

Hey JG69, seems like you know your stuff!! I'm currently in the middle of a swap (68 LS1 5.7, Holley EFI, 700R4, Merch Performance complete front assembly kit ). I'm wanting to go long tube headers from Stainless Works. Did you go with long tube or short tube on your build? I'm worried about the steering box clearance. Thanks for any and all insight!!

Your call, but I'd seriously consider keeping the 400, putting an Edelbrock E-Tec top end kit on it. This gives you their performance version of the Vortec heads, with a roller cam and Air Gap intake. Add an aftermarket fuel injection and you basically have LS performance. Just a thought. (I have a FiTech fuel injection - FYI)

To any haters - save it. My Gen 1 SBC with the above is extremely streetable 500 hp and gets good fuel economy. Half throttle at a 20 MPH roll smokes the tires.
