Default Local Camaro SS X-55 Scam??

I just went and put a small deposit on this car last night, and told the guy i was coming in a few days with the rest of the money.. I went and looked on the same website where i found the car on and was looking for some parts when I came across this ad.

*1969 Camaro SS tag_swap(buyer beware!)

The original ad the seller had posted is since been removed due to my deposit on the car and it being sold to me, the car is originaly a 4spd car with the transmission hump to my knowledge has not been tampered with or replaced.

Was wondering if someone can decode that vin and shed some more light on this.. asap

thank you!!

Are you saying you are buying that very car?
http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...ecode-1969.asp
TRim 727= Ivory standard interior
57 57= Fathom Green upper & lower body.
Build Date 01 C= January - 3rd week of month
X55= SS350
If that tag is screwed on (can't tell from the pic), then you can figure there's a good chance it's a fraudulently swapped tag. Now if the original matching numbers 350 engine came with the car, it would be confirmed as an SS. Otherwise, figure it's a phony SS.

Not the floor boards but the trans hump. The only hole an auto will have is a small circular hole for the shifter linkage. 69 4 speed cars shifter hole was rough cut from the factory while 67, 68 4 speed holes were smooth cut from the factory.

Just looked at the ad. The rivets and cowl tag are aluminum so if they are welded it would have to be tig welded, seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a car as rough as that. Cowl tag rivet holes are filled in from the factory with whatever it was they used so no big deal if they are filled in but they would not be welded. No way to tell from cowl tag or otherwise if car was auto or manual without build sheet. Just because it is X-55 does not mean 4 speed. Would definitely have 12 bolt rear end. Still would be skeptical.

The cowl tag is supposedly screwed on, according to the person who saw it in person and placed that warning ad. So I think SuicideCamaro needs to take a much closer look at this car.

thanks guys, the ad is now removed from craigslist.. either the seller of the car complained or the original poster removed it after I emailed him wanting more information as to why he thinks its a scam. Regardless.. Im not buying the car to completely restore it to numbers matching, just a fast pavement machine.

That's fine, as long as the seller didn't jack the price up because it's an "SS".
