,3 speed Power Glide, drum brakes, no AC and smog pump removed but saved. We are the 2nd owner with 60,517 mile when purchased in 1992.This car is the closet example of a Barn find out of Cailfornia. Always for sale for the right price so says the wife!
Nice ,you don't see many survivors like this anymore.
If it's a Powerglide it's a 2 speed by the way.
If it's a 3 speed it's a T-350.
Easy to tell,Powerglide only has Low and Drive,T-350 had Low 2 and drive.
Hi and Thanks for reply to post, typo on 3 speed it's a Powerglide AKA power slide, my 77 Monti Carlo had the 350 with 3 speed TH350 and I still regret selling that car for $2,500 in 1996.
I changed my "High School Sweat Heart" up a little...again... After 40 years of different Motors and Muncies...I'm running Fuel Injection technology but still old School at heart.
I pulled the 396 and M-22 trans and am dropping in a built 502BB and with Autogear's "M-23" beefed up M-22 Trans...

Big 2.125" primary tube Ceramic headers mounted BEFORE engine. Dropping in Engine/Trans.... New 502BB and Autogear "M-23" all installed, headers bolted up.
Hope you reinforce the body and subframe, That new engine will twist the old body and subframe.
Thank you, and a great item to point out for us Unibody owners . As this is not my first big V8 street machine, there will be no slicks, so I never plan to fully let "hook" and torque the entire unibody. I am going to use subframe connectors as a stiffener. The car will be just like some of the original COPO cars - it will just fry the tires in each gear. It will be fun
In the 2000s, I really street-mod'd this Camaro and had a CE 8-point roll cage when it looked like the below: 8-71 on a 502, Jerico 4 speed, Ford 9in. I never cut the chassis, as it is an original RS/SS. When I took the cage out, I did quite a bit of clean-up/refurbishment. It is basically restored now, except for my new fun engine. It was a crazy fast and fun car in the 2000s, and has been a great source of fun for me since I bought it in 1996.
My sister and I recently inherited my father's 1968 SS coupe. (396 / 350hp / 3 speed automatic). He bought it new in 1968, and it got hit by a drunk driver in 1981. It then sat in a garage until 2016, when my mother decided to get it restored. My father had passed away many years before that and never got to see it run again, but my mother got to enjoy it for several years after it was restored. Unfortunately she also passed recently, so it has been handed down to my sister and myself. Other than the body work, it is all original. I do think that the interior upholstery was redone as well, but was actually in surprisingly good shape as it was kept out of the sun and in the garage all of those years.
I have been working on old motorcycles for a few years, so this is quite a step-up from that. I know how helpful these forums are for old vehicles, so here I am.
Here are some pictures:
Here is a picture of my father the day he bought it. Here it is coming out of the garage after sitting for 35 years Here is the damage caused by the wreck Here is the restored interior Here is the restored car
