Hi Everybody,
Just bought my first Camaro, 68 SS 396 triple black with just over 36,000 original miles. I'm the documented 3rd owner. The second owner bought the car in 1989 and only put about 1700 miles on the car in all those years. Still has the original spare tire in the trunk. It doesn't need much more than some cleaning and some polish to be show ready.
The strange thing is that this guy traded it in at my local Ford dealer (can I say that here?)[sm=chairshot.gif]and since my sister in law works there she called me as soon as it arrived. I didn't give anyone else a chance to buy the car. Hope to learn a lot from the guys and gals on here.
Another reason I joined this site is that while I was talking to my neighbor who I know has had several first generation Camaro's he was telling me about his 69 Z28 that he had totaled and the only thing he had left of the car was the cowl tag. He's not into cars any more so he gave it to me. Now comes the confusing part. I have decoded everything on the tag and yes it is for a 69 Z except for one this one thing that has me scratching my head. On the top line right after the NOR the number is 145897 and according to everything I can find on the web this number should be 500000 or higher. Can anyone here help me or explain what I am missing ?
Thanks for any help and I hope to meet some nice people here.

You are one lucky...err...guy... I am over flowing with jealousy... That looks like a sweet car. I would still put it up on a lift and check out the undercarriage to make sure there is nothing wrong undereath... There are a lot of troublespots that can sneak up on you... As far asnt eh number deal, I have no clue... I am relatively new to this forum so I still don't know enough to give you any sort of direction... best of luck though and Welcome!

the last six digits just go up incrementally with each car that was built. you are probably just seeing a reference number online when you are looking them up
it is just saying that 145,896 cars were built before yours
