I have word on a barn Camaro in Northern California and I think it may be a Yenko. The old guy says its a 1967 with a 427 in it, he says it came that way from the dealer. He bought it new from a dealer in Pennsylvania but it hasnt been driven since 1975when he moved out here to California. Hedrove it all the way herebut hasno idea how many miles are on it. Thats all he can tell me about it.
Im going to go look at it over New Years weekend, how do I tell if its a REAL Yenko?

Wow! that would be quite a find,I don't know how to tell if it's real or a clone unless maybe you can find the build sheet or dealer invoice with the car and look at the VIN but it should have a Yenko badge on the side like this car.
If it looks like it's really been in that barn since '75 I doubt it would be a clone, nobody was really doing clones much back then.
According to this there were only 54 Yenko 427 Camaros built and only about 10 still known to survive,it would make that car worth a fortune if it's real.

I'll bet you can find what you need here....just don't tell them where the car is even remotely located lol.![Big Grin](https://camaroforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

First things first. Check the basic stuff get the casting numbers off the motor, make sure its a orginal BB 4speed/12bolt car. If he is asking a resonable price for a non-Yenko BB 67 then buy it and figure it out afterwards. He either knows its a clone or has no idea what its worth. Since Barret Jackson there are a lot fewer people out there that do not realize how much these old rare cars are worth. If he is trying to get 25K for it he knows the Yenkos are worth and if he knows that then why would he not check the current price?
Another quick check is the 140 MPH seedo. If its an older clone many did not go to that level.
There was a 67 Z28 with less then 8K miles on it. If I remember right the the guy bought up the Z28 right away. Less then 1K. If its real all it would take is one phone call or one add and that Yenko will become a 75K car.

If its a nice Camaro and the price is right just buy the car and worry about if its a true Yenko later. Like Y2K said, if its really been sitiing that long, they werent building clones in 75. Chances are its the real thing. You should be able to tell what a descent 67 is worth, then throw in a 427 and the possibily that it could be a Yenko... like I said buy the car if its a number you can live with either way and worry about the 'real deal' part later. good luck, let us know how it turns out and dont come back without pics!!

Just little stuff I dug up with google.
I never rode in a COPO Camaro but in 1973 a friend bought a '69 Nicky COPO 427 Nova.
That car had 4:88 gears and an M22 4spd,scary fast!![Big Grin](https://camaroforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Look at the invoice in this link with the #9861 that # is the COPO 427 special order.
(Central Office Production Order)
That option was not available in 1967 so the motor was a dealer installed deal making it harder to tell if it's an original Yenko 427 or not.
