HELP!..Rear end ID

A 12 bolt just fell into my lap...lol...I was led to believe it was for a first gen, but it appears tooo wide...58" inside of housing flange (where brake backing plate bolts on. But...its a 3894860 which keeps taking me back to Camaro. and the code on the tube is EA1005k which I can't find anyyywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I'm coming up with the same thing with the casting #. For reference though, the overall outer width (wheel mount to wheel mount) of 1st gen rearends is 60". If yours is wider, you could compensate by using wheels with more back-spacing. How do the spring perches measure up to your car?

http://www.348-409.com/differential.html

The EA = 2.56 ratio, Non-posi out of a 68' Gm Full size car

1005 = the build date 10 month (October) 05 (5th day)

K = the production plant (Mckinnon Industries)

I have a chevelle rear in my car and its a bit wider than the stock camaro rear. I can get you the width when I get home.

Here's all the other axle ID sites I know http://www.chevellestuff.net/1967/rear_axle.htm

aren't the full size cars on coil springs?...been a long time since i've had one....

juggernaut, I had looked up that casting number on the camaros.org site, and they listed it as a 1st gen rearend, but the codes didn't jive nor do the dimensions. Good to have other sites to cross check against. Thanks, I didn't have those other two.

My rear end is approximately 55" between the backing plate flanges and exactly 60 5/8" from axle face to axle face with the drums removed

The rear I have was a coil over. The upper "ears" (the upper control arms mounts) and the coil perches have been cut off. Then, Camaro leaf spring perches were welded on.

Wanna know when I found out I had a chevelle rear? When I couldn't get the C-clips in my New Yukon Gear axles...:icon_doh:
