faulty battery or overcharging alternator?
A couple of weeks ago i took the car out for a ride and stopped at the store. When i came out the battery had gone dead. I jumped the car with my battery pack, drove out of the parking lot and the battery exploded 1/4 mile down the street. I replaced the battery and checked the alternator to make sure it wasn't overcharging the battery. After the battery exploded i have since had to change all of my signal light bulbs and taillights because they all burnt out. After another ride the other day i noticed that there is battery acid on the top of the battery near the caps. Doing some research online people said it's the alternator others say the regulator any ideas?
Take a volt meter , start car , set meter to dc volts , put probes on battery post [ red on + , black on - ] and see what voltage you are getting , should be around 14 volts dc with car running , if any more than that , change regulator if externally mounted, or if it has been converted to internal regulator , have alternator checked out. sounds like you are overcharging .
