Default Engine spray paint or enamel?

This winter I will be pulling the motor and trans to clean up and repaint the engine and engine compartment. Any suggetions for type of paints? I am considering the multi-step POR 15 engine enamel (Chevy Orange), and standard black for the rest of the parts etc.Has anyone tried POR 15, and how did it turn out? Thanks

never used POR-15 on an engine. if I use a spray can, I usually just start with a wirewheel on a powerdrill to start, then I'll go to sandpaper where I can fit it (even better are the flexible 4 sidedsanding pads you can buy at supply shops) then I'll wipe down with acetone.

Iuse a self-etching primer followed by a high temperature paint (I don't even worry about "engine" paint) so I have more color choices. I will go with multipleextremely thin coats so it will totally dry thoroughly and bond itself well

good luck

thanks for the advise. from what i heard also is that the por 15 system has a high gloss finish, not quite what i'm looking for. i'm after the "factory finish".

1969 SS hows that paint on the engine holding up? I didn't think the self-etching primer could take the heat like that.

por-15 is a paint used to fight off rust. I understand it is used on part that had rust removed (trunk etc...) to prevent rust from returning.
I am with 1969SS on this. Its not proper for the aplication and you would be wasting money.

it's been around 6 or 7 years and no flaking at all, and my engine tends to run hot too

Should all the engine compartment components carry the same black paint? Firewall vs. inner fenders vs. subframe? What about brake shields and master cylinder lid. They should be a bright color right?
