DIY: Adding EFI to a Gen I

I have a 327ci from a 1967 Camaro that I'm working with and I'd like to improve the mpg by adding multiport fuel injection using boneyard parts and a modified intake manifold......would anyone happen to have input on the viability of this scenario? (parts needed, donors ect) Or, is there another economical way to improve the mpg using common easy to find parts? I have no desire to use anyones aftermarket kits as I feel GMs systems are superior to anything else in production.

What are you plans with the PCM. AKA the computer. The only older GM systems that will bolt on to your motor can not be modified very easly. They will be very difficult to tune to your older engine. The newer systems that can be tuned will want a modern ignition system the non-distributer direct ignition system.

You can go the Mega Squirt route and use all GM sensor and injectors. Mega Squirt is a custom control that will run anything. The issue is since it can run anything you have to teach it everything.

The easiest way to do this on your 67 is to pull a Engine/Tranny from a 97 Camaro. The LT1 will bolt in the 97 camaro PCM will be tunable with software like HPtune.

I'd intended to tune the computer via a laptop and burn a chip once I was happy with the settings.

What system will do that?

Stock ECM from a mid 90s GM pickup can be tuned to control both ignition and fuel via a USB cable and laptop then the parameters used to burn a new chip.

Ok, What type of software do you use? Who makes it? This is the first time I have heard of this. Which trucks had Multiport Fuel injection?

There is software out there that will do it....

However I agree with gorn, any modern PCM is going to be very unhappy trying to run your motor.

why not use a tpi unit from a late 80's early 90's camaro/firebird. there are lots of swap out posts using boneyard parts. I am going to do it this next winter on my 69 as well.

If unable to pull off the MPI system in an affordable fashion I was going to go with TPI or TBI....but, at this point, even a well tuned two barrel would be an improvement. Anyone have links for the junkyard TPI/TBI upgrade posts?
