Default Cutting Front Springs

Back in the day i remember some people cutting there springs to lower the front end. I think it was a coil and a half but not sure. I know drop spindles are the right way to go, but has any one done this and if so how does handle. What do you think?
Thank's in advance

when I was young my buddies and I did this mainly because we were broke (gas for the torch was cheaper than spindals) 1 &3/4 coils dropped a chevy to the ground! from what I remember they handled like they were on rails! but drivways and speed bumps were majior obsticls

im trying to remember i think a coil is a full inch but taking more than 1 and 1/2 is pushing it. your ride will suffer and your front end geometry will be thrown off. it is better than heating the heating the coils with a torch.

Yeah, we used to do the torch heating method. But then we used to do some scarey stuff when we were young that we'd never do now.

As much of a pain as it is, it's better to go the trial and error method, going 1/2 coil at a time. I replaced the front springs on a previous 69 (supposed to be replacements), and the front wound up way high. I don't remember how much of a coil we took off, that was too many years ago, but it landed down well on the first shot. And do not buzz the coils with a torch, use a saw or cut-off wheel.

Or you could take all the guesswork out of it and order a set of front springs with the amount of drop you are looking for. Beats taking your front end apart 2, 3, 4 times trying to get the right amount of cut each time. How much is your time worth?

^ If he gets lucky and that works. I know a number of guys (myself included as said above) who have replaced their front springs with "stock height" ones, only to have it riding higher than it's supposed to be (not just higher than the old worn out ones were, but higher than stock should make the car look). Lowering springs could still land him closer to stock height. It'll be a crap shoot, but could be a better starting point if his springs are shot anyway.
