Default crooked gas cap

..I cannot get my gas cap to line up like it should on my 67 RS..I see alot of SS the same way..they look like they should turn another 1/4" more but can't..
I'm sure they were straight from the factory..what happened?Attachment 7935 ..it is actually worse than this picture shows

Thanks!

Apparently, the outside isn't 'keyed/aligned' correctly with the inner piece when the rivet was set.
I know of no other fix except drilling out the rivet, thread it, align and secure the assembly with a screw and red Loctite.

The outside and inside are two different pieces once you get them lined up and secured again it should be fine.

We have looked into this and figured out that the filler neck was designed with at an angle from the factory. The after market repop caps did not know this when they were designed. That is why none of them are straight. When we designed our cap ( not a stock looking cap ) it was corrected.

Sorry I work at Ridetech and we have a aftermarket cap but it looks nothing like a stock. Here is a link I hope I am not crossing the line on the forum as I am not trying to advertise just showing you what we have so there is no misunderstanding.

Accessories :: Precision Coachworks Products :: 1967-68 Camaro Gas Cap (Clear Anodized) - RideTech.com - Suspension Specialist - Online Store

Jim-Bob

I was not suggesting you use the cap we sell. Heck I don't even have one on my car! Like you I would rather have the OE replacement. The one that is on my car is not straight either.
