Has anyone done a convertible top restoration that can point me to either some online documentation or explain the tack strip installation and also where to buy the correct tack strip.
I'm talking about the 1st member forward not the one that bolts up in above the U channel. The tack strip where the window ends. I dug out the old one, it measures 5/8" x 1/2" x 6 feet. It was secured originally with staples into the metal U-Channel. I see that Ecklers sells a 5/8" x 3/16" and a 1/2" x 5/16". The only thing I can figure at this point is that your supposed to buy the 5/18 x 3/16 and build it up???? And how do you secure the new tack strip in place? I was thinking of counterboring the TS and using sheet metal screws.
Thanks in advance for the help, no I'm not interested in bringing it to a shop, I'd rather screw it up a couple times and learn how to do it than pay someone to do it. Can't learn if you don't try.
