Default Brake pedal question....

I have a '67 Camaro with a 383 stroker. I installed the Summit front disc brake kit (with booster/master cyl). The pedal was low and due to my cam I was advised to put in a vacuum pump. Put the pump in, pedal was inconsistent. Then I put a vacuum canister in and now the pedal is waaaay to firm. I have serviced the rear brakes, and bled the system multiple times. I am not sure what to do at this point.....

Did you replace the push rod to one for power brakes and did you remove the rubber boot over push rod.

Yes, I replaced the rod and removed the bushing. It worked ok after the pump went on, but was not consistent pedal. Then, I put the vacuum tank on and the pedal became rock solid.

Are your rear brakes drum or disc? Do you have the correct valve installed?

The rear brakes are drum. I have replaced the wheel cylinders, shoes and drums (one drum had a flat spot on the outside, I'm guessing the wheel came off when it was owned by the previous owner). I'm told the new valve (came with the kit) is the correct one for a front disc/rear drum setup.

What kind of canister did you install? Does it have a check valve?

Brunk, thank you for your questions and help. I removed the canister and adjusted the valve on the pump all the way up. Looks like they are working great! I will post some "smokey" pics when I can!
