Default Best BB Bang for the $

I've been pricing out head/ cam pac's for my 454 mill and have come up with info from all over the board. W/O taking off the heads all I know so far is I have a Gen IV with about 500 miles on it. The casting #'s tell me it came outta a truck on the block and the heads are rec. port castings with the pass. stamp. That means pasenger car right? What I'm looking for is a tried and true head and cam setup that someone knows works well togeather. I don't drive her much so upper 500's in lift on a hyd roller would be nice. I would like her to be pump gas friendly and easy to tune but to the max end of street.

Are You willing to change heads? Do you know what compression ratio you are at now? You will need to know what you have to get to the end result. To stay pump gas friendly with Iron heads your compression will need to be 10:1 or less. With Alluminum heads you can push that to 11:1 or more depending on cam choice. Your cam will be important for cylinder preasure. If you do not want to change heads, research what heads you have exactly, chamber size and figure out your current compression. Then call a cam manufacture and give them the info and what you want to do.
I am running a 427 bbc with Patriot heads and a howards cam with 620 lift and it is very streetable and nasty at the track. I would call gunner at patriot, If you are willing to change heads. Or any head manufacture of your choice, they will have the answers you are looking for.

Good Luck

Hell yea I need alum. heads. Just got to bring her up to date. Problem is I don't know what kinda slugs I have and won't know w/o removing heads. Just wanna see diff. BB setups you guy know work for rad street apps. I'd like to keep the compression @ 10.1 or less. I know compression is only needed to turn those crazy cams and I've seen 9 to 1 BB chevys in the 550+range N/A. How do I find the compression? Leakdown test and some kinda formula?
