BBC 427 into a 68

I want to put a big block in where a 350 currently sits in a 68
I have the bigger bellhousing and flywheel for the 11 inch clutch
Will that bellhousing and clutch fit the big block?
Will I need another HVAC case to clear the valve cover on the right side?
What front springs can I use? So my front end is not slammed to the ground
I want to run a spoiler and still be able to drive into my driveway
Thank you
These are pics from the body shop

Is this an AC car? Did you want to keep the heater core?

If you put in an 11" fly wheel you need an 11" clutch.

I believe the BB will add a little under 200lbs sit on the hood. There is your stance. Will you be able to run s spoiler? That will be more a function of tire size. Even with my 350 and the original 14" wheels I was a little to low to run the spoiler but with 15" rim no problem.

You may want to replace the front springs/sway bar for handling quality. You will feel the weight at higher speed braking and she will fell like she is in a nose dive while braking on a corner. .

Not an AC car, and yes, I'd like to keep the heater core
Owned a 69 z-28 for years with 15s on it and never liked the nose down attitude and went through about a dozen 70 dollar spoilers.
Planning on switching to big block front springs in the front if I can find any
Old friend had a 68 ss 396 and it sat real low
He replaced his with new GM springs way back when and the car still sagged
Looking to run a 15 inch tire and would like a higher ride height that me sitting on the hood
Thank you
So, will my 350 flywheel and bellhousing fit on the 427?

You will need a big block heater core kit or your hose connections will be inaccessible behind the cylinder head.
The bellhousing bolt pattern is the same big and small block so yes the bellhousing flywheel etc will fit a 396 & 427 but not the flywheel on a 454 because they're externally balanced.
You'll also need a big block radiator and motor mounts, adding heavier springs up front is optional but it sounds like you'll want to for your desired stance .
Here's a really old photo of the '69 I had just swapped a 427 into without changing the springs, wheels were 14".
I was a youngster on a shoestring budget at the time and hadn't swapped in a BB radiator yet and the hood wouldn't clear the Edelbrock intake and Holley double pumper carb so I ran around without a hood for a while until I got my hands on a used cowl induction style hood.

Nice 69, thank you for the info
Big block heater core kit means what exactly?
Do I need a new front HVAC case or just a big block heater core?
Not sure what you mean about a kit
Thanks

I have not done this swap but I did researching it a while back.

If you go with the big block heater core I believe you need the outer cover you mentioned. Standard heater core goes through the fire wall. BB heater core the hose go through the cover. I also remember some guys using right angle adapters that they made up to turn the hoses. Some guys said they did not have to room to fit in any kind of adapters. I assume this was from variation in manufacturing. Some guys had to pound the fire wall in to fit an HEI and some guys had clearance without doing anything

I think you would need a new Z-bar because the blocks are different size. That change in the Z-bar could for a change in the clutch fork. That all assume your system has not been converted to hydraulic.

If you are thinking budget don't forget exhaust and accessory brackets. I believe the brackets are not the normal universal GM brackets. They are specific to BB First gen to make everything fit. Seems to me if you could fine someone pulling their BB so they can install a LS or LT motor may be your best bet.

Thank you
I have noticed brackets will be a problem
Finding a HVAC case cover for the heater core might be a problem too
Do you suppose say 1975 truck brackets would not work?
I have a little dough to throw at this but want to be reasonable
I did notice 2 places to put the Z bar pivot on the block side of my 350
One was in the block that I am using and one is in the bellhousing that I am not using
I will plan on needing a new Z bar
Thanks

Well it's been over 40 years since I did mine but yes you need the core and outer cover, you should be able to get what you need at https://www.camarocentral.com/
Give them a call and I'm sure they can fix you up with everything you need for your complete swap.

This is what a properly set up big block engine bay looks like, note where the heater hoses attach to the core.

Thank you
Looks like you have a Winters manifold and rectangular port heads?
Thanks for the photo
