Astro Vents - ducted to where?

I have removed and restored the Astro vent cover, ball, and angled plastic unit behind the ball. I think it is supposed to be connected by ducting to the fresh air intake from the wiper cowl, as there is a short outlet.
The gap between the outlet and the Astro vent is about 4 inches, but my car must have been messed with, because there is no ducting on either side.

Can anyone tell me if there is ducting, and of so, how it is attached, and what it is made of. is it flexible type ducting or rigid?

I have aftermarket AC/heater, ducted to demister, dash outlet and footwells. I dont realy want to duct it into the Astro vents, i prefer the Astro vents to just provide fresh air.

Any help appreciated. I checked on Classic Industries, but didnt see such a thing as I need.

One thing you really should consider getting is an assembly manual but if you pm me your email I'll scan the astro section and send it to you. Based on what I'm seeing in my manual, the astro vents in a non-ac car become outlets for a car with AC...

Thanks for the reply Mike - great pic of your 68 too. I have already ducted fresh air to the astro, but I am interested in how it is supposed to work, so if you care to send me the scan, please send to

I am heading overseas for two weeks so I guess it is in the hands of my mechanic until I get back. awaiting my cam from the machinist (I need a groove cut - its a 66 block). Heads are back, so it's ready for assembly.
