Default Another tire size question

As I just posted in the noob section, I'm rebuilding a 69 rs/ss. I still have a while before I'm ready for wheels and tires but it's something to start thinking about in case I need to make changes. I'm going to lower the front 2" and back 1" and leave everything else factory. I'd like to go 17x8 on the front and 17x9 on the back. If this isn't too wide of a wheel, what's the largest tire I could go with and I dont want the tires sticking out of the quarters. I've done a ton of thread seaching and found several different sizes with every backspacing imaginable so I'm looking forward to yalls advice. Feel free to throw out any other options yall can come up with for wheel and tire sizes. The wider the better.

You will need to take some measurements on your vehicle and go from there. Put a straight edge on your drums/rotors and measure to the back of your inner wheel well. Subtract approx 1 inch for tire clearance and that will give your back spacing. Also take into account shock mounts. Measure from back of wheel well to inside edge of fender will give your max width (minus tire clearance). The front you can do the same but you will need to turn the wheel and take the measurements.
