Default AC Delco Part

Recently I changed my core support because it was rusty.
In doing so, I had to disassemble some things and I wish I would have taken pictures before I disassembled everything.
So I've sort of lost my way here.

This part says AC Delco on it and one of the wires not shown, that I clipped off routed to the alternator.

Can someone tell me what this is and does? Also which one of those terminals do I connect the alternator back up to?
Is there a more modern version of this part available? This one has to be super old and might need replaced.
Thanks for any information!

That's your voltage regulator
It's an old points type regulator
Lasts about forever, replace it if the vehicle does not charge the battery, or just for GPs and looks

What do you recommend I replace it with that looks a little nicer?
There is a million of them on different websites.
I don't run points anymore, my ignition is MSD with a 6AL box on it.
So no need for a resister wire or anything like that.

What do you think?

If I don't replace it, do you know which of those terminals to run the alternator wire to?

Not without looking at mine or a schematic
The points are for the alternator field circuit not the ignition
They are inside that voltage regulator not the distributor
Not sure what to replace it with, the new ones are electronic most likely

Do you know what I should look for on a meter to test it?
I'm trying to figure out which one of those terminals had the alternator wire to it.

It looks like the other wires go to the headlights and then back towards the firewall before I lose the wire in the bundle.

I traced the two wires back.
One of the wires goes to the battery positive terminal block. The other one goes to the alternator.

The wire that is connected currently to the voltage regulator I traced back to the firewall and I think it goes into the under dash fuse box.

So I see two terminals on the voltage regulator. One has the currently attached wire that I traced to the fuse box.
So should the wire that is attached to a terminal that has 12VDC positive common with the battery and the wire that goes to the alternator be attached to that other terminal on the voltage regulator?

Horn relays do look similar
The 2 wire connector and the 1 bigger wire tell me it's the Voltage Regulator
You need a schematic

Nothing is stock here.
I don't have a schematic. I'd need to create one myself.

I'm trying to figure out how the alternator should connect to the electrical system as a whole.

It seems like there is only two terminals on that voltage regulator. I have 3 wires.
(I'm feeling like an idiot here)
1 wire traces back to the fuse box under the dash.
1 wire goes directly to the alternator.
1 wire goes to a terminal that is electrically the same as the battery positive terminal.

You can get the schematic for an old Camaro pretty easy
I probably have one in a old Motor service manual
That alternator wiring is as simple as they come
I will try to post the wiring diagram later if I can find my books after moving
The alternator hooks to the system with just one power wire, my 69 had a circuit breaker block where the wire was two piece for overload protection
The other 2 wires are the field wire to excite the field and a sense wire to tell the thing when to charge
Alternator light is in there somewhere, not sure where without looking at my 68 or a diagram
I'll try to post one
Your cars problem is what? Battery constantly dead and no alternator
output?
